About Meghan Coakley

Meghan Coakley leads the NIH 3D Print Exchange. Through her outreach efforts with the NIH 3D Print Exchange, she has participated in a number of Maker Faires, STEM-related outreach events, and popular science conventions. As an active member of the Web3D Consortium, she is working toward improved data standards to better support new and emerging uses for 3D printing. Meghan also contributes to initiatives from the HHS Idea Lab, Creative Commons, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She is an advisor to the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Meghan holds a Masters in Biotechnology and a PhD in Biochemistry from University College Cork, Ireland.

About This Idea

An initiative from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, The NIH 3D Print Exchange, is an online portal dedicated to providing data and tools for 3D printing and visualization of bioscientific and medical models. Files in the open-source, community-driven database are free to download, and in formats that are readily compatible with 3D printers. Users will also find a unique set of tools to create their own 3D printable models from raw scientific and medical data. In an online sea of 3D printable gadgets and widgets, the NIH brand empowers both researchers and educators with a trusted source to discover high-quality, accurate, and informative biomedical models for use in research, communication, and education.
