About Robert Wachter

Renowned UCSF internist, founder of the hospitalist movement, and former chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Bob Wachter is a national leader in the fields of patient safety and healthcare quality. He is well known for his iconoclastic — and humorous — viewpoints on the pressing healthcare issues of the day, including the role of patients and physicians in medical care. Author of six books, his most recent, The Digital Doctor: Hope, Hype and Harm at the Dawn of Medicine’s Computer Age, has received wide acclaim and has been a New York Times bestseller. In 2004 he received the John M. Eisenberg Award, the nation’s top honor in patient safety and quality.
