Carlos Bustamante, PhD
Professor of Genetics and Biology, Stanford University
Stanford professor, population geneticist, and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow Carlos Bustamante analyzes genome-wide patterns of variation within and between species to address fundamental questions in biology, anthropology and medicine. The Bustamante Lab uses a rigorous, quantitative approach to explore evolution across species, patterns of population migration and the complex origins of pre- and post-history human genetic diversity. A co-founding director of the Stanford Center for Computational, Human and Evolutionary Genomics, he also leads Informatics at Stanford’s Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine. Bustamante was Stanford’s inaugural co-host at TEDMED 2014 and has also been featured in TEDMED’s Great Challenges Program.
